Meet the GK Steering Committee:

Invitation to an informal discussion with the German Society of Cognitive Science

Dear participants of the KogWis2025,

you are cordially invited to participate in an informal discussion/exchange of ideas with the Steering Committee of the Cognitive Science Society. What is the role of Cognitive Science in the light of Large Language Models and other models in AI? Where and how should cognitive science engage?
The event will be held under the title: “Cognitive Science and Society: An informal exchange about the future of Cognitive Science and the GK e.V. in our post-modern world“. The informal exchange will take place during dinner on Monday after the poster session (01.09.2025, 7:15 pm – 8.30 pm, Q-West (on campus). Four tables during the dinner will be marked with signs each designated to one topic. No registration is required, just pick a table and join the discussion.

The main discussion topics will be:

  • Future activities: ideas for (online) talk series, theme evenings, pressing topics, etc.
  • New formats at the bi-annual conference KogWis for better integration of young researchers
  • Our society in transformation: How should the cognitive science / our GK contribute?
  • Study Programs and Education in Cognitive Science: How can we foster careers in and outside of academia; how can we integrate alumni?

We are looking forward to meeting you all at KogWis 2025 and to many fruitful discussions on Monday evening as well as possibly even beyond that over the next months.
Thank you for your interest and participation.
Sincerely,
Martin Butz (head of the society)
